Sambhav aimed to establish a Community Radio (CR) FM Station to serve
the different communities under 15 km (Max) radius around Shivpuri HQ
with support from UNICEF, in its ongoing Village Level Micro-Planning
Program, to disseminate the vital informations on several social issues
in mass and using CR FM Station as a dominant communication tool to
incorporate with its all participatory initiatives with different
targeted communities in the vicinity.
The
project was initiated with a community needs assessment c.omprising
both quantitative and qualitative components. It was conducted to
identify characteristics of the community, including current media usage
and local development issues, as well as gauge local interest in a
community radio station.
The
CNA clearly indicated the critical importance of a community radio
station for the communities (more specially women and the excluded
ones).
Why
community radio
· >>>Radio
the most preferred media-
Four
in five respondents reporting access to a radio and over half using it
several times each day
· >>>A
big scope to cater to development information needs-
Just
two-thirds of all survey respondents had heard of HIV/AIDS, even fewer
among women
· >>>A
strong audience’s desire to participate in programming-
Over
half of all respondents said they would be interested in presenting
information or calling in to a music.
